Approximate atomic models for fast computation of the Fokker–Planck equation in fusion plasmas with high-Z impurities and suprathermal electrons

With the choice of tungsten as a material for ITER plasma facing components, suprathermal electron interaction with non-fully ionized impurities emerged an important issue in modeling. Microwave heating and current drive systems, especially lower hybrid drive, can generate significant population electrons plasma. Also, case runaway generation mitigation by massive gas injection, collisions have impact on drag force. A correct description fast requires calculation atomic form factor. This be done ab initio models that are accurate, though time consuming practical applications. In this paper, we compare existing approximations factors, based Thomas–Fermi or Pratt–Tseng models. Ab density functional theory (DFT) calculations used reference method to determine accuracy compared Based analysis, propose some modifications models, tuned numerical parameter optimization, which provide higher while maintaining short computation time.
